The waters of Bimini are legendary and there is never a shortage of epic stories from the locals. Hanging out and socializing at the bars and docks can offer the most amazing experience.
For a walking trip through the real Bimini (#realbimini) be sure to visit the site of The Compleat Angler, Hemingway’s home away from home and the Bimini Dolphin House & Museum filled with Bimini memorabilia. It’s an ongoing creation of art meets residence, and on most days you can meet and learn all about Bimini from the owner/artist/creator Mr. Ashley Saunders.
On your Bimini walkabout be sure to venture down the road from the Dolphin House to Radio Beach, and even further down the beach or roadway where you will find a favorite photo spot, The Gallant Lady shipwreck resting on the shoreline.
You can also do a little search of the local buildings and you may find the famous bar featured in the film Silence of the Lambs where Hannibal Lecter discreetly puts on his fedora and exits the bar walking down the road and disappearing into the busy Bimini street crowd. We suspect he was heading out to lunch with his friend arriving at the airport on South Bimini.
For a half day on the water to do a little dip in the Healing Hole, stop by the Dr. Martin Luther King memorial or just spend the day close by but yet in your own world playing on one of the sandy beachfronts and sandbars with a local small boat charter and captain. Just ask at the desk about scheduling an excursion.
Bikes may also available for use, check at the front desk area for availability. They are not available for reservation so check early and often and be sure to lock them up when you leave them.
Whether you are visiting for a day or a week, there’s something interesting to do when you’re not fishing or bathing in the relaxing sun. Visit the Big Game Activity Page for a full list of things to see and do!
